New Suno Features & Tags That Shape a Song

Suno doesn't publish an official tag list — the bracket tags are community-tested conventions that have stayed stable across recent models. Most of the genuinely new control this year comes from new models and plain-English editing, so this sheet covers both.

New in 2026 — features you can prompt for

The v6 family

Released September 2026. v6 is the dependable, polished flagship; v6-wild is looser and more experimental (good for genre fusions); v6-mini is the quick model free users get. v6 and v6-wild need a paid plan.

Edit in plain English

Rework one section and leave the rest alone — e.g. "turn the chorus into a gospel choir" — or swap a single word in a lyric without regenerating the whole track.

Prompt from a vibe

v6 can start from a feeling rather than a genre ("sounds like midnight on a rooftop"), and can take text, an audio clip, an image or a video as the starting point.

Mashups in one request

Pull parts from several of your songs at once — vocals from one, drums from another — then add new lyrics and a target genre in the same instruction. You can also sample a moment, isolate an instrument and build a beat around it.

Speech (beta)

New on 1 October: generates spoken word and its backing track together in one take — bedtime stories over soft piano, a hype speech over stadium drums.

Voices, Custom Models & My Taste

Record or upload your own voice and sing on your songs. Train a Custom Model on at least six of your own tracks so it learns your sound. My Taste picks up your usual genres and moods and feeds them into the Magic Wand.

Lyricist & lyric editing

Save samples of your writing as a "lyricist" to keep new lyrics in the same voice, and edit lines conversationally — "make this funnier", "try an off-beat rhyme scheme".

Studio, MIDI & Sounds

Studio's chat bar can now turn a MIDI clip into new audio stems and understands tempo changes. Sounds mode makes one-shots and loops to a set key and BPM.

Lyrics box — tags that still steer the output

Structure

[Intro] [Verse] [Pre-Chorus] [Chorus] [Bridge] [Outro] [Fade out]

Energy & production

[Build-up] [Drop] [Breakdown] [Guitar solo] [Ad-libs] [Spoken word]

Delivery

[Whispered] [Soft] [Belted] [Powerful] [Harmonized chorus] [Echoing vocals]

Stacked section tags

[Chorus | chill | synth lead | soft vocal]

Two to four tags that don't contradict each other, with the section name first.

Inline instrument cues

[Intro: Rhodes chords] [Outro: Fade out]

Name the section, then the sound you want in it.

Style box & Exclude Styles

The formula

Genre + mood + instruments + vocal type + tempo, comma-separated — e.g. warm indie folk, fingerpicked guitar, soft male vocals, ~88 BPM.

Lock in a vocal

Put [Female vocals] in the Lyrics box and add "male vocals" to Exclude Styles — the two together hold far better than either alone.

Say it twice

Describe the shape in the Style box ("builds into a drop") and mark it in the lyrics with [Build-up] and [Drop] so the energy curve actually lands.

Match the model

v6-mini likes clean prompts — three to five style tags and a standard verse/chorus shape. Save the unusual genre blends for v6-wild.

Rules of thumb

Keep each tag to one to three words, and put it on its own line above the lyrics it applies to.

Around three to five tags per section — pile on more and Suno starts ignoring them.

Write tags in English even if the lyrics aren't; Suno treats them as directions, not words to sing.

Early v6 reports are mixed on how closely it follows tags, BPM and arrangement notes — test a short draft before committing a full song.
